In addition to significant enhancements in the Version 10 Synthesis Platform, we also continue to expand the capabilities of individual Synthesis desktop applications. Here’s a quick overview of the main new and improved features in DOE++.
The new Mixture Designs folio is used when the factors in the experiment are proportions of components in a mixture (e.g., the proportions of iron, copper, nickel and chromium in a stainless steel alloy). Mixture designs can also be used to investigate the effect of process factors (e.g., the temperature, pressure and curing time). This allows you to optimize both the proportions of components and the way the mixture is processed.
In all design folios, we have added the ability to exclude specified rows from calculations using drop-down lists. This allows you to keep ignored data points in the data sheet for reference or future use.
In standard and mixture design folios, Version 10 now provides the option to enter up to 50 measurements for every test run. By considering multiple measurements in each run, you can control for variation in the measurement process.
In central composite designs, you can now calculate a factor's low and high levels based on a specified range and alpha value. This guarantees that the factor values in the design will always stay within the specified limits.
For reliability-DOE – which is available only in DOE++ – you now have the option to manually set the shape parameter of the life distribution. By basing the regression model on a trusted historical estimate, you can reduce uncertainty in your calculations.
For optimization plots in Version 10, you can now choose to hold factors fixed at specified levels during the optimization. In addition, the interface for specifying the optimization settings uses a more intuitive tree-based configuration.
3D Surface plots can be very effective to examine and demonstrate how the combined levels of two selected factors affect the selected response. Now in Version 10, we’ve completely upgraded the 3D plotting utility, with significant appearance improvements (including anti-aliasing and more legible text) and many more configuration options.
We have also added a new 3D scatter plot, which allows you to see the observed response values vs. two different factors. For both 3D plot types, you can now save individual plots with the project (just like overlay plots or side-by-side plots).
In Version 10, you can now examine sections of a plot up close with the new zoom function for plots. Simply point the mouse pointer over the area in the plot you want to zoom in or out of, and then rotate the mouse wheel. Press ESC to return to the original scale.
In all Synthesis desktop applications that use a current project explorer (Weibull++/ALTA, RGA, DOE++, BlockSim/RENO and Lambda Predict), you can now choose to have multiple projects open simultaneously. When this feature is enabled, it’s easier than ever to import/export between projects using convenient drag and drop
The Synthesis Workbook is a custom reporting tool that is built directly in to many Synthesis desktop applications (replacing Analysis Workbooks and Word Report Templates from prior versions). The new tool provides an updated interface, better integration between spreadsheet/word processing and an unlimited number of associated data sources. In addition, if your organization chooses to implement a web-based portal for an enterprise database, you can now share selected reports to be accessible from any web-enabled device!
If your organization chooses to implement the web-based Synthesis Enterprise Portal for an enterprise database, you can choose to publish selected analysis information to share with the team – including managers and colleagues who don’t have Synthesis desktop applications installed – accessible via any web-enabled device.
In DOE++, you can publish the following for any calculated data sheet in any design, free form, multiple linear regression, one-way ANOVA or measurement systems analysis folio:
The folio identifiers and data sheet.
An "analysis summary" for every analyzed response (also accessible from the folio control panel).
The plot that's currently displayed in the associated plot sheet.
An associated optimal solution plot, if applicable.
