There are two kinds of item properties: properties that depend on the prediction standard you are working with (e.g., quality level, voltage stress, etc.) and general properties that are available for all items regardless of which prediction standard is being used. This topic describes the general properties.
The general properties can be displayed in the System Hierarchy and/or the Properties panel:
To choose which properties will be displayed in the system hierarchy, select the options in the System Hierarchy page of the Application Setup, or right-click anywhere in the system hierarchy and click Customize Columns.
To choose which properties will be hidden or displayed in the Properties panel, select the options in the Properties page of the Application Setup, or right-click the property name and choose the option on the shortcut menu. The only exceptions are Name, Quantity, Mission Time, Redundancy and Quantity Required. Those five properties must always be displayed.
Your preferences are stored per computer/username, so any project that you open on this computer will have the same properties displayed.
The following properties apply to all items:
Name is the name or other identifying label.
ID is an identifier for the item. This is user-defined and does not have to be unique.
Part Number is the part number.
Alternate Part Number is the alternate part number or other identifying label.
Version is the revision or version number.
LCN is the location control number or other identifying label.
Reference Designator is a string indicating the item's position in its parent structure.
Supplier is the supplier name.
Application is a description of the expected application and environmental conditions for the item.
Description is a general description of the item.
Function Description is a description of the item's function in the system or assembly.
Quantity specifies whether the item represents multiple identical items that are all subjected to identical stress conditions (e.g., they have the same operating environment, applied voltages, etc.). This speeds up data entry by allowing you to add/edit only a single instance of the item. By default, the identical items are assumed to be reliability-wise connected in series. However, if the Redundancy property is set to True, the quantity indicates the number of items in a reliability-wise parallel configuration.
Analyst is the person who performed the analysis for the item.
Compiled By is the person who selected to include the item in the current prediction.
Approved By is the person who approved the analysis for the item and/or its usage in the current prediction.
Comments provides extra space for any other notes related to the item.
The following properties apply only to generic blocks:
Update Children and Update Temperature Mode specify whether and how certain stress values (e.g., temperature, voltage, etc.) should be synchronized for all components in the same assembly. (See Update Modes.)
Redundancy, Quantity Required and Mission Time are properties for considering redundancy (i.e., components organized in a reliability-wise parallel configuration) for some calculations. (See Redundancy.)
