MAX

Description: Returns the largest number in a set of values. The set can be defined by entering the values separated by commas, or by entering the references for a range of cells. For example, =MAX(1,2,3,4) returns 4 while =MAX(A1:A4) returns the largest value in rows 1 through 4 of column A.

Syntax: MAX(Number1, Number2,...)

If A1:A5 contains the numbers 10, 7, 9, 27 and 2, then:
