With the release of the Synthesis version, ReliaSoft introduced a new methodology for quantitative criticality analysis that is patterned after MIL-STD-1629A but uses a more general approach that overcomes several inherent limitations and simplifications present in the military standard (including the assumption of a constant failure rate). For details about the new approach, see http://www.ReliaWiki.org/index.php/Criticality_Analysis.
In Version 9, users have the option to use the updated method (which is integrated directly into the FMRA and FMEA interfaces) or the original method (which has a dedicated utility that can be enabled via the Application Setup, if desired).
This chapter discusses the following:
How to enable the criticality analysis fields for the project. This is required for any type of criticality analysis you may wish to perform.
How to perform qualitative criticality analysis based on rating scales.
How to perform quantitative criticality analysis directly in the FMRA.
How to enable and use the MIL-1629A Criticality Analysis window, if desired.
Xfmea also provides flexible support for the RPN risk assessment approach. (See Risk Priority Number (RPNs.)
