FMEA Analysis

Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) are methodologies designed to identify potential failure modes for a product or process, to assess the risk associated with those failure modes, to rank the issues in terms of importance and to identify and carry out corrective actions to address the most serious concerns.

The following topics will discuss:

• An overview and general background for typical FMEA analysis methods and how the FMEA integrates with some related analyses.

• Choosing which hierarchical structure will fit your analysis process (Effects Before Causes, Grouped Effects Before Causes or Causes Before Effects).

• Adding an FMEA to a project and using four tabs to:

• • Define the header information that will be displayed at the top of report output.

  • View/edit the analysis records in a hierarchical tree.

  • View/edit the analysis records in a tabular worksheet (similar to Excel).

  • View a filtered and sortable list of all records of a particular type (e.g., all cause records sorted by RPN).

• Using the record properties windows to add, edit or delete FMEA records (e.g., function, failure, effects, etc.).
