Causes

To add a cause to the Functional Failure Analysis, choose F-F-E-C > Cause > Add Cause.

To insert a new cause above the selected cause, choose F-F-E-C > Cause > Insert Cause.

To edit an existing cause in the functional failure analysis, use the properties window. To open the properties window, select the cause and choose F-F-E-C > Cause > Edit Cause or double-click the cause in the hierarchy or filtered view.

In addition to the options and fields common to all record properties windows, the specific cause properties (in the Cause area at the top of the list) are as follows:

• The Cause # field contains a lower-case letter that is automatically assigned by the software based on the current position of the cause in the current F-F-E-C hierarchy

• The Failure Cause field allows you to type up to 255 characters to describe the potential cause(s) for each failure. This should be the actionable level of the analysis, which is the level of causation at which corrective actions and/or controls could be applied effectively.

• To open the Task Selection window, you can view or edit the maintenance tasks that have been defined for this cause, click the Task Manager command in the Home tab of the Ribbon.

Tip: For any properties window, blue text indicates that you can edit the field, italic gray text indicate that the information is automatically populated by the software. When you click inside any editable text field, the Select Existing icon   displays a list of the unique text descriptions that have already been entered for this field.
